Yamazaki isn’t your typical song. Bang Yongguk worked with producers duo Ye-Yo. It is dark. It has heavy dark lyrics that will take a while to fully decode it. Gore and disturbing themes also revolve around it. This type of music requires a heavy stomach and an open mind to get it.
However, with all that said, Yamazaki brims with such unique artistry that only Bang Yongguk can make.
The song is heavily influenced by the Japanese culture. Yongguk rapped the song in Korean and Japanese, making use of his deep voice to the fullest. The beat is catchy and you can find yourself nodding along. Not only that, the instrumental is well done and it gives off an Asian aesthetic vibe with the addition of a string instrument on the background.
Fans created many theories about the Yamazaki Music Video
Some fans also speculated the meaning of the song. Some even went on to write full analyses. The most accepted theory is that perhaps Yongguk is an oni (a Japanese demon), who is tasked to punish men who sinned. This is further boosted by the fact that the oni mask heavily runs around the MV.
Bang Yongguk first hinted by dropping multiple images on his Instagram. Last June 16, he mysteriously posted 3 bland pictures with the words, “Yamazaki” on it. The fans speculated that he’s drinking (Yamazaki is a whiskey brand). Afterwards, he followed it up by posting a picture that depicts a scene in his MV, last June 22. This garnered attention from the fans.

As for the reception of the song, it has been mixed. Some dislike the inappropriate themes in the MV as it is too dark, whilst some praise the uniqueness of the piece. But of course, no one can deny the production level is indeed high-class regardless of the content.
