Yang Hyunsuk dropped hints about BLACKPINK’s comeback last June 5 by deliberately posting on his Instagram a sneak peak of BLACKPINK’s new MV with the captions, “#NEWMV, #nowShooting”
The effect? Yep. Hype happened among fans.
Afterwards, last June 16-19 they’ve been posting teaser photos to rile up their fans even more (Thank you K-Pop God). Finally, last June 20, they gave the fans a sneak peak of their MV by releasing a 20 seconds teaser video.
And so, June 22 happened and BLACKPINK once again slayed with their new song As if It’s Your Last.
However! This song is quite different from the previous music they’ve released so far. This song relies on heavy drumming rhythm and bass line. YG Entertainment trademark revolves around the usage of hip-hop and electronic pop to keep up the rhythm and lyrics that give iconic phrases. This song? NOPE.
As If It’s Your Last does keep the smooth transition and build-up of the song, but it gives off a lively and upbeat song, completely different from their previous songs. Not only that, the feel of the music changes a lot. At first, it gives an exotic vibe, then it transpires to upbeat pop and then the iconic electronic pop style and the cycle continues.
But what’s so amazing about this music, is that these themes fit so well, that it gives the listener a ride that’s intense.
Apparently, the composers intended, that this song is like a drink to drive off the summer’s heat; hence why it is upbeat.
Moreover, this piece can be compared to a love letter that is written by someone telling their lover to give their all in everything they do.
