BTS Namjoon is no longer Rap Monster but RM
A while ago, a leader and rapper of popular kpop boy group BTS – Kim Namjoon or previously known by his stage name Rap Monster or Rapmon for short has mentioned that he found that his stage name no longer suits him. He also changed the stage name to RM on BTS fan cafe. And made posts using it ever since. Fans and media have speculated that the star doesn’t want to be referred to as Rap Monster anymore and it is true.
Recently, Rap Monster came out with an official statement to media and his fans about changing his stage name to simply RM. And from now on, everyone should call him that. He mentioned that Rap Monster was too long and he wanted to sign the music he writes with a shorter and more convenient name.
This should be no problem for the fans since majority of Korean fans shorten their favorite idol’s names anyway. In RM’s case international fans have mostly been referring to BTS rapper as Rapmon or Namjoon as well. And now there’s even less work – simple and clean – RM.
This November 13th, BTS RM has shared a message on fan cafe page about the stage name official change.
Here’s what he said in his official statement:
I have considered writing about this a few times but it was difficult.
I’ve used Rap Monster as my stage name for about five years, since 2012.
It was naturally created by the staff and group members after the lyrics I wrote back when I was still a trainee. I have developed deep feelings for this name and became fond of it.
Nevertheless, BTS Rap Monster was rather long to use during promotions. Over past 5 years I felt that its becoming more irrelevant to the music I made and the music I would like to make in the future.
I have also come to introduce myself as Rapmon or RM rather than Rap Monster. That’s why I decided to change my stage name to RM which represents a larger spectrum and would be more appropriate to the music I’d like to produce from now on.
Previously, I’ve already released music as RM so fans might have suspected the (coming) change.
I have considered this for a long time and I’m planning to make music for a long time in the future without any limitations and boundaries.
It might be unfamiliar and awkward since I’ve been using this stage name since pre-debut years but I would really appreciate it if everyone could welcome me with a fresh start with a new name that came to be after the long consideration.
Meanwhile, BTS is going to perform on TV for the first time in USA at AMA (American Music Awards). Moreover, they will appear is such popular American shows as The Ellen DeGeneres Show and Jimmy Kimmel Live!. Once again, BTS is making history.
